The state of Kentucky treats homeschool as a private school. As a homeschool in Kentucky you’ll need to follow these requirements:
- Notify the Board of Education Every Year
- Every year, within the first two weeks of school starting, you must notify the local board of education. The notice should list the students in attendance at your school and include their names, ages, and addresses.
- Keep Attendance and Report Cards
- You must keep attendance reports and report cards in a similar manner as your local public schools do. Typically these must be updated every 6-12 weeks, depending on your school schedule.
- Teach for the Required Period of Time
- A parent must ensure that at least 1,062 hours of instruction is provided to their child. This has to be done over at least 170 days.
- Teach School in the English Language
- You are required to include reading, writing, spelling, grammar, history, mathematics, science, and civics in your homeschool curriculum, and to teach in the English language.
