Hawaii has moderate levels of regulation for homeschoolers. In Hawaii you must complete the following to stay in compliance with homeschool laws.

  1. Submit a “Declaration of Intent to Homeschool” 
    • The letter should be sent “before initiating homeschooling” and at the beginning of the local public school.
  2. Keep a Record of The Curriculum
    • This must include the commencement date and end date of the program, the number of hours per week of instruction, the subjects to be covered, the method used to determine mastery of materials and subjects in the curriculum, and a list of textbooks or other instructional materials.  
    • Your home study program must provide a basic educational program that includes, but is not limited to, reading, language arts, mathematics, social studies, and science.
  3. Take Standardized Testing 
    • Your child must be tested at each completed grade: 3, 5, 8, and 10 with results submitted to the principal of the local school.
